2018 Trip Schedule

Our 2018 trip is rapidly approaching. Our dates and locations along I-40 (Route 66) to California and then down to San Diego and then along I-8 to Yuma AZ, where we pick up I-10 and head back home.

Our fall 2018 trip with a quick stop in Jacksonville where we purchased our motorhome (Just like a car they don’t offer something for nothing). We stayed in their free campsite the first night (quagmire due to all of the rain). The Friday AM we dropped off for inspection and a roof cleaning and sealing. We finally departed at 1700 – I was hoping to depart at about 1400.
With us departing so late I ended up taking I-75 up thru Georgia to Hwy 82 into AL, up I-65 and caught I-22 into

Tupelo MS and up to Memphis TN. Around Memphis and headed to Little Rock Arkansas for our first real stay.
The trip getting the far was anything other than uneventful. We now have a car dolly. After the previous two years of waiting for a rental car (it’s something about lack of patience). OK, so new dolly looks nice. As we travel the first day I was flagged down by a trucker who informed me that I had a problem on the back of my motorhome. Ute Oh what’s up, I pull off the road and one of my trailer lights had popped out and was only being held on by a couple of wires. I check the tire straps all is good and tight. OK, easy enough fix and back on the road. Several hours later we stop for gas. I check the straps when I see the same lens in the tire strap that is off my tire (I’ve had one strap holding my car onto the dolly. I know what you are thinking – I wouldn’t have had this problem if I just rented when I landed some place. OK we drive on and spend the night in a truck stop no problems. As we head towards Memphis I’m flagged down again – they are both off again. I put the strap back on took the lens out and headed to a local Walmart to purchase a set of magnetic lights to put on the back of the car and plug into the motorhome. It is good I did! As we headed on the out skirts of Memphis we thought we had entered the hurricane Florence that is heading to the Carolina coasts. It was bucketing down. I could hardly see and the trucks were hauling past. It is time to get out of this mess so we pull off to a truck stop and when we go in there is a line. When we get there the lady says $30 o stay the night – no hook ups. We said no thanks and end up back in the soup. Fortunate for us – just down the road was a truck rest area. We pulled in there and was good for the night.
The next day we are up and raring to go. I only have five hours to go to get to Little Rock Air Force Base. One of the bases I had been TDY (temporary duty assignment) to. But before I can get there this dolly is not going to give me a break. As I head down the Interstate about two hours into my trip. A trucker again tells me something is wrong at the back of my motorhome. I again pull off, but this time my magnetic light came off and I had lost the red lens. OK I put it back up but I had to face the orange lens aft. OK again easy fix and back on the road. I’m not another hour down the road when I’m flagged down again. The same light had come off again! This time it broke the orange lens and the light bulb. That sucker was out of here – we went on with just one light on the trailer. There were no signs of bad weather and I now only had an hour to go.
