Buckley SFB

After leaving St Louis towards Kansas City we spent a couple nights in this camp site up on top of a hill where you could see the surrounding area. then we headed through Salina Kansas and then towards Hays. We eventually made it to Buckley SB (Space Force Base).

While here we were able to venture out to a couple of - to me very interesting places. One is the USAF Academy. I was impressed with the Aw and surroundings. Unfortunately the Citadel was being repaired and no one was allowed in. The pictures below show the area.

There is such a beautiful view here. I was surprised to see that they had glider flying here not powered flight. I hadn't flown in a glider since I was back in Belgium. I would imagine with all of the mountains around they could get a lot of lift. While departing you could see the local town in the valley below. Showing how high up the academy is. On another note - I'd hate to march to school in the winter time.

Another one of our adventures is more so for those that are younger and healthier. Now how can a train trip be for those that are younger or at least healthier. It's when you are getting out of the train when you are above 15,000 feet. As we climbed we eventual was above the tree line. We were fine till we stood up. It was take deep breaths. Oh take deep breaths inside your coat. The air was not only thin but extremely cold. Enjoy the photos of our train ride up. We were in a newer train with three cars. You will see one of the older cars coming down as we go up. Our car was new they had purchased them from Switzerland. The pictures below are in reverse order.

On our drive down for the train ride we went ast this town called Castle Rock. With the pictures below I wonder how they came up with the name for this town

Our last trip while in Colorado was to another Look Out Mountain. This one is a bit special - at least or me. I was brought up n Westerns. I had already been to Calamity Janes burial site in Dead Wood and is mentioned and shown on a previous blog. But this one is about Buffalo Bill Cody - the frontiersman and wild west performer. He personally chose this spot over looking the plains surrounding Denver Colorado. There is a museum here as well high lighting his life.

This was our last trip in Colorado before heading to Cheyenne Wyoming.
